Basement and Crawl Space Waterproofing in Prospect, OH
Challenge
A homeowner in Prospect, OH noticed that water was coming through the base of the walls in his basement, as well as crumbling walls in his crawl space. The crawl space area was dirty and wet.
We sent Phil Matthews, a certified inspector for Mid-State Basement Systems, to the home after the owner called us for help. Phil evaluated the problem and proposed several products that would permanently solve these issues. He explained how CleanSpace walls would keep out moisture from getting into the home, but still allow air circulation so that mold wouldn't grow. He also showed them how they could install a WaterGuard sub-floor draining system to remove all water from the home and pump it out with a Zoeller cast-iron sump pump.
The homeowners decided to move forward with Phil's recommendations.
Solution
Our expert crew, led by foreman Raul Calderon, went out during the scheduled project time and got straight to work. They hammered out the area around the perimeter of the basement and crawlspace to install WaterGuard sub-floor drains on the concrete footer of the home. These are patented french drains that you can only find with Basement Systems dealers. They have holes in the sides and a flange along the wall to catch water coming from any direction. The drains were installed at a slight angle so the water will drain to the SuperSump and Smart Sump sump pumps the crew set up next. These are pumps for a basement and crawl space, respectively, that can pump thousands of gallons out of the home per hour.
They finished the job by installing CleanSpace vapor barrier throughout the basement and crawl space. They covered the walls in the basement area and completely encapsulated the crawl space. This is a heavy, 20-millimeter thick liner that's similar to a swimming pool liner. The 7-layer construction combines high-density polyethylene for puncture resistance, low-density polyethylene for flexibility, and polyester cord for reinforcement. The bright white finish brightens the area. The "UltraFresh" additive prevents mold from growing on the liner.
The homeowners are happy with their decision to go with Mid-State Basement Systems. They no longer have to worry about dampness or wetness in their basement or crawl space—and those areas look great now too thanks to CleanSpace walls!
