Waterproofing a Cafe Basement in Columbus, OH
Challenge
A cafe owner in the Columbus, OH area called Mid-State Basement Systems because there was water leaking into several areas of the building's basement. It was an old and damp area with exposed brick walls. The owner had gotten a couple of different estimates from other companies but wanted just one more. One of our inspectors visited the home and provided a comprehensive estimate to keep the basement dry for years to come.
Solution
The cafe owner decided to go with Mid-State Basement Systems and our expert crew, let by foreman Bryon Salinas, came out to install the products. First, they installed the WaterGuard subfloor drainage system around the full perimeter of the basement to prevent more water leakage. These are drains with a unique and patented design to collect water from the walls, under the floor, and on the floor. They are installed at a slight angle so the water collected drains into the sump pump. For this purpose, the crew also installed a Triple Safe Sump Pump to efficiently pump excess water out of the building.
The sump pump was then connected to new discharge lines that lead outside, through the yard underground, and out into the street drains away from the building.
They also installed a CleanSpace vapor barrier against all of the walls. This is a 20-millimeter thick vapor barrier similar to a pool liner. It will keep out any moisture, pests, bacteria, and more, and make the basement look clean and bright.
Finally, since there was occasionally water pooling at the bottom of the stairs leading into the basement, the crew installed a TrenchDrain at the bottom to catch water before it enters the basement. This drain is also connected to the WaterGuard system and will b pumped out with the sump pump.
Now the cafe owner has a safe and clean space underneath his business for storage.
