WaterGuard and Basement Finishing in Powell, Ohio
Challenge
This Powell homeowner noticed water kept appearing in her basement, which was quite a nuisance. She was concerned for the health of the overall environment and wanted a dry basement all year around. She also noticed her basement window well was dark, dirty, and deteriorating. She wanted to improve the look of her basement as well as keep water from coming in. After conducting extensive research, she decided to set an appointment with Mid-State Basement Systems.
Solution
On the day of the appointment, Certified Inspector Phil Matthews arrived at the home to give the free home evaluation. After conducting the evaluation, he concluded that a WaterGuard System would need to be installed in order to control the water issue. WaterGuard sits along the interior perimeter of the basement and redirects water to the sump pump.
This would resolve the water issue, but the homeowner also wanted to improve the appearance of the basement without completely finishing it. Luckily, Mid-State Basement Systems offers a variety of walls and floorings that are compatible with our complete basement waterproofing system.
To prevent moisture from entering the basement and ensure a clean and appealing appearance, Phil suggested our BrightWall paneling system. BrightWall panels transform bare walls into bright, durable, maintenance-free finished walls, which is exactly what the customer was looking for!
Next, Phil recommended our ThermalDry carpet tiles, which are manufactured in square tiles that snap together. These are ideal for basements because they don’t have a foam pad that soaks up water. Instead, there’s a waterproof plastic base designed with a built-in drainage plane and thermal break.
Lastly, Phil recommended our SunHouse Basement Window Well Enclosure. This innovative window well includes a vinyl floor that will keep out dirt, moisture and pests.
These products would provide the solution the homeowner was looking for and she moved forward with the production process.
On production day, Brent Lopez and his production team arrived at the home to begin the process. First, they excavated the perimeter of the floors in order to install the WaterGuard System. Gravel is put around and on top of the system to allow water to move more freely, then it is paved over with cement. This system is directed to the sump pump which then takes the water and discharges it away from the home.
Next, the BrightWall panels and ThermalDry carpet tiles were installed. These ensured the basement would stay dry and look aesthetically pleasing. Thanks to their innovative design, any water will drain through the ThermalDry carpet rather than soaking in, eliminating worries about mold, mildew and moisture damage.
Finally, the SunHouse Basement Window Well Enclosure was installed. The homeowner went with the optional clear plastic cover, which will keep the basement window well free of snow, rain, leaves, grass clippings and other debris. Pests won’t be a problem, either!
With all the products installed, the homeowner was overjoyed with the results. All the products resolved all of her concerns and now has a peace of mind of her beautiful basement.
